Basic Butter Cookie

From: Mom King

1 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg
3 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder

Mix butter, sugar, vanilla. Beat in egg. Combine flour and baking powder. Gradually add to butter mixture. Shape into a ball and flatten. Refrigerate for 3o min, if too sticky. Work with 1/4 of dough at a time. Roll and cut. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake on 350 for 5-15 min.

Growing up my mom used to make these and cut them in heart shapes. The bottom heart would have a full heart and then the top heart had a heart cut out of the middle and in the middle of the cookies was strawberry jam. We loved these as kids and sometimes I crave them.

You can also substitute brown sugar for regular sugar, which i prefer.
