I made this for Valentine's and it was a hit! I am not a sushi fan. (actually I've never tried it, but I have tried seaweed several times and I can't do it) I am not usually a fan of fish. (pregnancy ruined it for me) You can customize this recipe to fit your tastes too.
Here's the original recipe:
2.5 cups uncooked sushi rice "Nishniki"
2.5oz rice vinegar
3 oz mirin sauce
1- 2 tbs sugar
For the filling:
Cucumbers
Cream cheese
Smoked salmon or Crabs
Red bell pepper
Avocado
Canned tuna
Mayonnaise
Seaweed chips snack or sushi nori
Sushi rice "Nishniki" is the best choice (Walmart sells it)
Here's mine:
Sushi rice
shrimp
avacado
cream cheese
steak or chicken
seaweed
cucumber
Here's how I made my rice. I cooked it according to the package directions. Which was I think 1 cup of rice. I used about 1-1 1/2 Tbsp rice vinegar and 2 Tbsp white wine vinegar. I cooked the rice and then mixed in the vinegars.
I cooked the steak to our desired temp and then sliced it. I didn't use seaweed cuz my husband is the only one who would eat it and I didn't want to spend the money.
We put the rice on our plate and tried to make it look kinda like a log shape. Then I put a little soy sauce on the top and then cream cheese, cucumbers, steak, shrimp, avacado.
I bought a wasabi sauce and a hot sriracha chili sauce. I mix the hot sauce with 2 Tbsp mayo and a few drops of sesame oil and hot sauce to taste. I drizzled a little of each sauce over the top of our sushi.
It was yummy and we will be making it again!
